The quick answer

Laser hair removal for dark skin is safest with a laser designed for melanin-rich skin. At Crystal Ngozi Beauty & Esthetics in Tucker, GA, we use Aerolase, a 1064 nm laser with 650-microsecond pulse technology designed for all skin types, to reduce facial and body hair, ingrown hairs and razor bumps, with no numbing, no cooling and essentially no downtime. We treat all skin types and specialize in Black and brown skin, including women with hormonal or PCOS facial hair and men with beard bumps.

Why Aerolase for dark skin

Hair removal without trading one problem for another

Shaving, waxing and plucking on melanin-rich skin often leave ingrown hairs, bumps and dark marks that last longer than the hair. And some traditional lasers can burn or darken deeper skin tones.

Aerolase is different. Its 650-microsecond pulse delivers energy so quickly that Aerolase designed it for all Fitzpatrick skin types, I through VI, with minimal risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. No numbing, no cooling and, for most clients, just mild redness that fades within hours.

Honest guidance

We will tell you exactly what to expect

Laser targets the pigment in hair, so gray, white, light blonde and red hairs do not respond well. Hormonal hair can keep coming back, so maintenance is part of the plan, and we are happy to work alongside your doctor. Laser is not recommended during pregnancy, with a tan or sunburn, within six months of Accutane, on light-sensitizing medications, or over an active infection, cold sores or a tattoo. Only have fine peach fuzz? Dermaplaning may be all you need.

Questions

Laser Hair Removal FAQ

Is laser hair removal safe for dark skin?

Yes, with the right laser. Some traditional lasers can burn or darken melanin-rich skin. We use Aerolase, a 1064 nm laser with 650-microsecond pulse technology that Aerolase designed for all skin types, Fitzpatrick I through VI, with minimal risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Does Aerolase laser hair removal hurt?

Aerolase is described as virtually painless. There is no numbing cream and no cooling needed, and most clients feel only a light warmth.

Is there any downtime?

Essentially none. You may see mild redness right after treatment that usually fades within hours, and you can go right back to your day.

Will laser help my razor bumps and ingrown hairs?

Yes. Aerolase is FDA-cleared for pseudofolliculitis barbae, the medical name for razor bumps. Reducing the hair means fewer ingrown hairs, fewer bumps and fewer dark marks left behind from shaving and waxing.

Can laser help facial hair from PCOS or hormones?

Yes. Laser reduces the hair you have now, which helps with the ingrown hairs and dark marks that shaving and plucking cause. Because hormones can keep stimulating new growth, many clients with PCOS need maintenance sessions, and we are happy to work alongside your doctor.

How many laser sessions will I need?

Hair grows in cycles, so laser works best as a series. Most clients start with a package of six sessions, spaced every four to six weeks for face areas and every eight weeks for body areas, followed by maintenance as needed. Your consultation gives you an exact plan.

Can I shave between laser sessions?

Yes, shaving is fine. Avoid waxing, plucking and threading between sessions, because the laser needs the hair root in place to work.

Does laser work on gray, white, blonde or red hair?

Laser targets the pigment in the hair, so gray, white, light blonde and red hairs do not respond well. We check your hair and skin at your consultation and tell you honestly what to expect.

What areas can you treat?

Face areas include the upper lip, chin, cheeks, jawline, sideburns, neck and full beard. Body areas include underarms, bikini, Brazilian, arms, legs, back, chest and abdomen.

Why are there two consultation buttons?

Face laser starts with our skin consultation, so we can look at your skin and your hair together. Body laser starts with a dedicated laser hair removal consultation.

Who should not get laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is not recommended if you are pregnant, have a tan or sunburn in the area, have used Accutane in the last six months, take medications that make you sensitive to light, or have an active infection, cold sores or a tattoo in the treatment area.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. We offer flexible payment plans through Cherry and Klarna, plus single areas, packages and combination plans, so there is an option for every budget.
