The quick answer

Skin tags and DPNs (dermatosis papulosa nigra, the small dark raised spots common on melanin-rich skin) can be removed in the treatment room with high-frequency thermolysis, a non-laser method that dries each spot so it forms a tiny crust and flakes away within about one to two weeks. At Crystal Ngozi Beauty & Esthetics in Tucker, GA, we also remove milia, cherry angiomas and sebaceous hyperplasia. We treat all skin types and specialize in Black and brown skin, and we never remove moles or changing spots without a dermatologist’s check.

Why they show up

More common in women of color, and easy to treat

Skin tags and DPNs are harmless, but they are not your imagination. They are significantly more common in women of color, and genetics, friction, hormones and insulin resistance all play a role. Many clients notice more of them with age, pregnancy or weight changes.

You do not have to live with them, and you should never cut, tie off or freeze them at home. On melanin-rich skin, that can leave scars and dark marks that are harder to fix than the original spot.

Honest guidance

We check every spot before we treat it

We do not remove moles or any spot that is new, changing, bleeding, itching or irregular. Those should be checked by a dermatologist first. Removal is not recommended during pregnancy, if you are prone to keloids, if you have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, or with metal implants in the treatment area. Many clients also notice more spots with aging and hormonal changes, and we can build that into your plan.

Questions

Skin Tag & DPN Removal FAQ

What skin irregularities can you remove?

We remove skin tags, DPNs (small dark raised spots common on melanin-rich skin), milia, cherry angiomas, sebaceous hyperplasia, small broken capillaries and cholesterol deposits around the eyes.

What are DPNs?

DPN stands for dermatosis papulosa nigra. They are small, harmless, dark raised spots that often appear on the cheeks, around the eyes, on the neck and on the chest, and they are especially common in Black and brown skin. They often run in families and tend to increase with age.

How does skin tag and DPN removal work?

We use a high-frequency thermolysis device, not a laser. A fine probe barely touches each spot and dries it out. A tiny crust forms over the next day or two, then flakes off on its own as the skin underneath heals.

Is it safe for dark skin?

Yes, when it is done by a team trained in melanin-rich skin. We use precise, controlled energy on each individual spot and give you aftercare that protects your skin while it heals.

Does it hurt?

Most clients feel a quick, light heat or pinch on each spot that is over in seconds. We can use numbing cream when needed, especially for sensitive areas or many spots.

What does my skin look like after, and how long does it take to heal?

Treated spots may look slightly red or darker at first. Over the next 24 to 48 hours a small crust forms, and it usually falls off on its own within about one to two weeks. Do not pick, keep the area clean and moisturized, and wear sunscreen daily.

Will I need more than one session?

Many spots clear in one visit. Larger or very numerous spots may need a follow-up, and we can treat many spots in one appointment.

Why are skin tags and DPNs more common in women of color?

Genetics play a big role, along with friction, hormones and insulin resistance. That is why many of our clients notice more of them with age, pregnancy or weight changes.

Can I remove skin tags or DPNs at home?

We do not recommend it. Cutting, tying off or freezing spots at home can lead to bleeding, infection, scarring and dark marks, especially on melanin-rich skin.

Do you remove moles?

No. We do not remove moles or any spot that is new, changing, bleeding, itching or irregular. Those should be checked by a dermatologist first.

Who should not get skin irregularity removal?

Treatment is not recommended if you are pregnant, are prone to keloids, have a pacemaker or other implanted electronic device, or have metal implants in the treatment area.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. We offer flexible payment plans through Cherry and Klarna, plus single visits and combination plans, so there is an option for every budget.

Do I need a consultation first?

Yes. We confirm what each spot is and whether it is safe to remove at your consultation. Your first visit includes a custom facial, so it is already treatment.
